This Vestavia Hills master bedroom had good bones, with loads of opportunity, but suffered from tired carpet and finishes. The new owner wanted to breathe renewed life into this space, giving it a fresh feel without breaking the budget in renovations. The large space offers 9 foot smooth ceilings, molding, good light, and plantation shutters. It was around those good foundational features that she created a fresh, tranquil space.

The carpeting was old and stained and so she replaced it with wall to wall seagrass – a durable, high-style alternative that is easy on the budget. Next up was a coat of fresh paint. The walls and trim got White Dove, while the ceiling now pops in Woodlawn Blue (both Benjamin Moore colors). The dated ceiling fan was replaced by the woven bamboo SINNERLIG Pendant Lamp from Ikea, an affordable and high-impact item at only $99. The bamboo echos the natural textures of the seagrass carpet. But it’s the finishing touch that adds pop and style at a very reasonable cost: she painted the existing white plantation shutters the same blue as the ceiling. The cost to paint existing shutters is only $50 per panel, so this two-panel window was a $100 improvement- talk about a high return for your money.
